As the current incarnation of Research Computing and the DCC is entering its 8th year we are announcing the planned retirement of some of our 1st generation researcher purchased hardware. While we have been able to update RC provided equipment, we have held researcher purchased hardware in service as long as possible. Most planned retirements are targeted for January 2025 with a few minor exceptions.
There are two main drivers of these retirements:
- Modern CUDA support cannot be maintained on some of our oldest GPUs. Expect GPUs released prior to 2017 to be impacted.
- Our initial hardware that started the cluster is now officially end of life/support. All Cisco M4 hardware is impacted.
Protected retirement of servers as hardware becomes obsolete is available for individual labs through research toolkits.
